'Najeeb must scream with guilt if he had sex with goats, this won't be suitable for the movie'

Directed by Blessy with Prithviraj in the lead, 'Aadujeevitham' is attracting packed audience in theaters. The film is based on the renowned writer Benyamin's novel 'Aadujeevitham.' Following the movie's release, there was renewed discussion about the novel, which was published years ago. Among the topics debated was the lack of emotional connection between the goats and the character Najeeb in the cinematic adaptation. Director Blessy addressed these questions in an interview with a private channel

Blessy's words...

This question requires a nuanced response. Adapting a novel into a film necessitates condensing the narrative, which in this case spanned 43 pages. If I were to faithfully recreate every detail, it would require eight or ten films. As a screenwriter, my responsibility lies in distilling the essence of the story.

From the outset, I've emphasized that the movie represents my interpretation of the novel. I've introduced elements not present in the book. Certain dialogues from the novel, if directly translated to the screen, would feel awkward and disrupt the viewing experience.

The portrayal of Najeeb in the film differs from the novel, particularly in his relationship with his family. In the movie, Najeeb's hope for survival stems from his family, symbolized by his preserved mango pickle. Such a character would not engage in sexual relations with goats.

While I could have depicted it creatively, it would not align with Najeeb's character arc. Najeeb would've screamed with guilt if he engaged in such an act. This divergence from Najeeb's established persona would not serve the film's narrative or thematic integrity.

Ultimately, my goal was to portray Najeeb as a character who maintains his humanity despite his harrowing circumstances. Introducing elements that compromise his moral compass would undermine this portrayal and detract from the film's overall message. This won't be suitable for the movie.
