Sudden surge in temperature; warning issued to central Kerala district

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Apart from the hilly areas, the state is likely to experience extreme heat on Friday and Saturday, which will see people struggling to cope with the sudden shift in climate.

Kollam, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts are likely to get more heat in the coming days as per the IMD report. For the second day in a row, Kottayam is four degrees warmer than normal. It is in Kottayam that the state has suddenly experienced more heat this summer. Apart from this, the highest average temperature was recorded in Pathanamthitta, Kannur, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kottayam districts.

  • Avoid direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm

  • Drink plenty of lukewarm water even if you are not thirsty.

  • Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, carbonated soft drinks etc.

  • Wear loose-coloured cotton clothes

  • Use an umbrella or a hat when going out
