PATHANAMTHITTA: Abdul Shukur, who served as the CPI Pathanamthitta constituency secretary and was also a member of the district council has resigned following disagreements with the CPI leadership. Shukur, who was given the election charge of LDF is reported to be joining the Congress today. However, the district leadership has not yet responded to this development.

DCC president Satheesh Kochuparambil is expected to welcome him into the party. Shukur had previously held positions such as the District President of the Trade Union of CPI and the Secretary of the CPI Pathanamthitta Local Committee for fourteen years.

During the Lok Sabha elections, Shukur was in charge of eight panchayats. Following a dispute over the election of the District Panchayat Vice President, Shukur had been on leave for a few days. He cited disagreement with the organization as the reason for leaving the party, stating that he believes Congress is the best platform for his work. Shukur expressed confidence that more workers, including leaders, would join Congress and predicted that the UDF candidate Anto Antony would emerge victorious in the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency.
