THRISSUR: The real architect of the Vaikom Satyagraha is Sree Narayana Gurudevan, and the truth was brutally suppressed when the revolutionary from Madras was installed during the centenary celebrations, Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai said. He was inaugurating the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Library and Study Centre in Namo Bhavan, BJP city office at Thrissur.

When Gurudevan's vehicle to Vaikom was stopped at the place where the caste board was placed, his disciple T.K. Madhavan and others were agitated. This marked the beginning of the Vaikom Satyagraha led by Gurudevan. The Rs. 1,000 given by Gurudevan and the Rs. 2,000 given by Shradhanandan from the Arya Samajam office in Lahore were the major donations received for the Satyagraha. However, the money sent from Madras did not reach there. The All India Congress Committee also conducted an investigation into the matter. It was only after national leaders, including K.P. Kesava Menon, were imprisoned that the revolutionary from Madras arrived at the call of the AICC. How did he become so important in the second phase? This is not to say that I am underestimating him. However, in the textbooks of Tamil Nadu, it is written that he started the Vaikom Satyagraha. We can't keep silent on such things.
