KATTAKKADA: A 44-year-old man committed suicide in Kattakkada after reportedly facing severe mental distress over a job offer scam. The deceased has been identified as Pramod, a native of Thoongampara in Kattakkada. He was found hanging inside a room in his house the other day.

According to reports, about five years ago, Pramod had paid Rs 10 lakh to a person who promised him a job in Canada. He also paid Rs 3 lakh to another person who promised a job for his wife in a cooperative bank. However, even after several years, neither the jobs nor the money were returned. He had arranged the money by joining a chit fund at KSFE and pledging property as security.

Pramod was living in his family house with his wife Anju and their daughter Ananya, a Class 7 student. He worked as a daily wage labourer, while his wife was employed at a private firm. Relatives said he was under severe mental stress due to increasing debts and fear that his property might be seized.

The Kattakkada police prepared the inquest and shifted the body to the Medical College for post-mortem. The body was later brought back home and cremated the same night. His brother Pradeep has given a statement to the police regarding the alleged job fraud.
