THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two people were injured after an escalator malfunctioned at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station. The incident occurred when passengers who had just disembarked from the Vanchinad Express were using the escalator to move up from Platform 5. According to officials, the escalator, which was moving upward, suddenly reversed direction, causing several passengers to lose balance and fall. The escalator was immediately shut down following the incident. Railway authorities said initial findings suggest that overloading may have caused the malfunction.

The injured passengers have been identified as Dhanya and Ambili. They were given first aid at the railway aid post and later shifted to the General Hospital for further treatment. Both sustained injuries to their hands and legs. Sources said a few other passengers also suffered minor injuries in the fall.
