Summer rains likely to intensify; Yellow alert in ten districts including Ernakulam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department warned that summer rains will be heavy in the state. A yellow alert has been issued in the wake of the rain warning in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. An orange alert has been issued in Kottayam and Ernakulam districts as there is a possibility of heavy rain in the next three hours.

The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. Heavy rain refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

The IMD also said that in the next three hours, districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki may receive moderate rain with thunderstorms and winds up to 40 kmph in isolated places. Meanwhile, there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala–Karnataka–Lakshadweep coasts today, the IMD added.
