THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Defying the KPCC’s directive against public demonstrations, Congress workers on Friday staged fresh demonstrations across Kerala demanding that V D Satheesan be named Chief Minister. Marches and slogan campaigns were held in Kozhikode, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Kottayam. In Thiruvananthapuram, hundreds of workers took part in a march held in front of the Secretariat. The main slogan raised during the protests was, “Let the one who led the battle lead the state as well.” The march in the capital began from the Palayam Martyrs’ Memorial.

Earlier, V D Satheesan had appealed to party workers to avoid demonstrations and flex boards. He said the Congress-led UDF had achieved a historic victory by winning 102 seats and added that leaders and workers should not do anything that could create problems for the party or the alliance during this moment of happiness and pride.

Satheesan also said that the first phase of selecting the Congress Legislature Party leader had been completed and that the AICC was moving to the second phase of the process. In his Facebook post, he urged workers to avoid factional protests and the installation of flex boards.
