KOCHI: Following the UDF's sweeping victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, V D Satheesan received a grand reception in Kochi. Satheesan, who arrived in Kochi from Thiruvananthapuram, was welcomed enthusiastically by party workers at the Ernakulam Junction railway station. UDF supporters raised slogans of “Chief Minister Satheesan” as they gathered in large numbers.
After the train arrived, Satheesan struggled to step out as workers crowded near the door. With no space to move, he was eventually carried on the shoulders of supporters to exit the station. He also found it difficult to enter his car due to the crowd. Later, he greeted supporters through the sunroof of his vehicle before leaving the area.
The Congress in Kerala had been on the verge of decline after remaining in the opposition for two consecutive terms. From that point, the party has now returned to power with a two-thirds majority, winning 102 seats. Party workers believe that V D Satheesan played a key role in this comeback. At a time when there are differing opinions within the party over who should become Chief Minister, the massive reception for Satheesan is seen as strengthening his claim to the top post.
