THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president K. Surendran demanded that a case should be registered against CPM state secretary MV Govindan for his remark that Sanatana Dharma is obscene. Surendran alleged that Govindan's statement insulted millions of Hindus and Indian culture. He also criticized the Chief Minister's statement, saying it and Govindan's remark point in the same direction.

"Through such statements, the CPM is trying to appease religious extremists. The leaders of the INDIA front are continuing to attack Sanatana Dharma. Earlier, the DMK had criticised Sanatana Dharma and later Rahul Gandhi mocked the concept of Shakti. Now, the CPM is also continuing to do the same. The CPM thinks that the culture of this land is obscene. It is this thought of the CPM that made the people reject the party. CPM has become like a salted earthen pot, losing its value, and is now the biggest obscenity in the country," Surendran said.

Earlier, former Union Minister V Muraleedharan had alleged that the Chief Minister was challenging the Hindu community by not withdrawing his controversial statement against Sanatana Dharma. Muraleedharan further said that MV Govindan's statement against Sanatana Dharma was a reflection of his contempt and hatred for Hindu believers.
