CHENNAI: Vijay visits Governor R V Arlekar again, claiming that TVK can form the government. Vijay met the Governor for the second time this morning. Sources close to the party say that Vijay has informed the Governor that TVK is ready to prove its majority. Party sources also say that TVK has sought legal advice on forming the government.
Vijay had met Tamil Nadu Governor-in-charge Rajendra Arleker yesterday and sought permission to form the ministry. He had informed to prove his majority within 14 days. However, the Governor's stand was that the oath-taking would be sufficient after proving his majority.
TVK, which has 108 seats, is trying to reach the absolute majority of 118. Congress has announced its support. Vijay has written to VCK, CPM and CPI, which have two seats each, to ensure their support.
Vijay is relying on the parties in the DMK front to complete the majority. The Muslim League, which has two seats, has made it clear that it will continue its ties with DMK. DMDK, which has one seat, will not leave the front either. Unofficial talks have begun with the PMK in the NDA. A demand has also been raised in the AIADMK to support TVK. The pressure is strong on party general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami.
