CHENNAI: Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has created history by breaking the Dravidian political dominance that existed in Tamil Nadu for over 50 years. This is the first time a third party has emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu by surpassing the two major Dravidian giants.

In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, TVK won 108 seats. A party needs 118 seats for a simple majority, and Vijay now requires the support of 10 more MLAs to form the government. The ruling DMK was reduced to 59 seats, while AIADMK secured 47 seats.

Following the massive victory of the TVK, an old photograph featuring late former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and a young Vijay has gone viral on social media. The picture shows Karunanidhi cutting a ribbon at an inauguration event, while Vijay stands behind him, watching with curiosity.

The photo was shared online by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who also added a striking caption, 'Kalaingar wouldn’t have dreamed that the kid behind him would one day destroy his party .'
