MUMBAI: Rohit Sharma is gearing up for a comeback in the IPL after a brief hiatus due to a hamstring injury. While the veteran opener has featured in only four matches so far this season, he is currently making headlines for a touching incident involving a ground staff member during a practice session.

The incident occurred during a Mumbai Indians training stint. While Rohit was honing his skills in the nets, one of his powerful shots accidentally struck Siban Biswas, a member of the ground staff, squarely on the knee.

Putting humanity before practice

As soon as the ball hit Siban, Rohit immediately halted his batting practice and rushed to the staffer’s side. Despite suggestions from others to continue his session, the former Indian captain prioritised Siban’s well-being. Rohit didn’t just offer a quick apology; he personally ensured that an ice pack, medication, and pain-relief spray were brought to the spot. He only resumed training after confirming that the necessary first aid had been administered.

"I forgot the pain": Siban Biswas

Reflecting on the encounter, an emotional Siban Biswas shared his experience:

"I was moving the off-side nets as instructed by Rohit Sir and wasn't looking at him batting. Suddenly, the ball struck my left knee. He rushed over instantly to check if I was okay. Even though it was quite painful, the fact that someone like Rohit Bhai came over, checked on me, and shook my hand made me forget the pain entirely. It was a massive moment for me."

Fitness and playoff hopes

Rohit Sharma’s fitness remains a major talking point for Mumbai Indians as they navigate a crucial phase of the tournament. While his availability for the upcoming match is yet to be confirmed, MI still has five games remaining in the league stage. However, the team's chances of qualifying for the playoffs currently appear slim.
