Assembly session on May 21, former minister G Sudhakaran named pro-tem Speaker: Chief Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V D Satheesan said the government has recommended to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to convene a special session of the Legislative Assembly for the swearing-in of MLAs and the election of the Speaker. He also announced that former minister G Sudhakaran has been chosen as the pro-tem Speaker. Satheesan was speaking to the media after the first Cabinet meeting of the new government.

"The Governor has been requested to convene a special Assembly session on May 21 for the swearing-in of MLAs and another session on May 22 for the election of the Speaker. Once approval is received, the Governor's policy address will be held on May 29," the Chief Minister said.

"It has been decided to appoint G Sudhakaran, the senior-most member of the Assembly and MLA from Ambalappuzha, as the pro-tem Speaker. The next cabinet meeting will be held on Wednesday," Satheesan added.
