Nine killed, many injured after fire breaks out in residential building in Delhi
NEW DELHI: Nine people lost their lives in a massive fire that broke out in a four-storied building in Delhi. The fire broke out in Vivek Vihar in east Delhi at around 4 am Sunday. The fire broke out on the second floor of the building. The fire force immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations. Around 14 fire brigade units reached the spot. By then, the fire had spread to the third and fourth floors.
Firefighters rescued more than 20 people trapped inside the building. The injured were admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital for treatment. The fire was brought under control by 6 am after a two-hour-long effort. Many parts of the building have been completely burnt. The exact cause of the fire is not yet clear. However, locals said the fire was caused by an air conditioner (AC) explosion in the building.
