Various districts to receive rainfall in coming hours; people in these six districts should exercise caution
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that isolated light showers are likely in various districts of Kerala in the coming hours. Rain is expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts. The IMD also said that heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places across Kerala and Mahe from today until May 14. Strong winds with speeds between 30 and 50 kmph may also occur during this period.
A cyclonic circulation is currently present over the Gulf of Mannar and nearby Sri Lanka. In addition, a trough extending from North Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar remains active. Due to these weather systems, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours. Weather experts say this could further influence Kerala’s weather conditions.
Strong winds and rough sea conditions are also expected along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast, with wind speeds ranging from 35 to 45 kmph and gusts reaching up to 55 kmph at times. The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts today. Fishing activities have also been banned on May 10, 12, 13, and 14 along the South Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Kanyakumari region, and parts of the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen who are currently at sea have been advised to return to the shore immediately.
