Case of assaulting Youth Congress activists during Nava Kerala Yatra; Gunmen likely to be suspended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The gunmen accused in the case of assaulting Youth Congress activists protesting during the chief minister's Nava Kerala Yatra are likely to be suspended. A D Thomas, one of the activists assaulted then is now the designated MLA of Alappuzha. Thomas will soon file a complaint demanding the rejection of the police investigation report which states that there was no lapse in the assault case. With this, there will be further investigation in the case.

The chief minister's gunman and a policeman on security duty got out of the car with a stick and hit the youths on the head while the police were removing those who had staged black flag protests against the Nava Kerala bus at the Alappuzha General Hospital Junction. The gunman, who was supposed to be traveling with the chief minister, came out on the road with a stick hidden in the escort vehicle and brutally beat the protesters, which had led to a huge protest. It was also alleged that this was a violation of service rules.

However, the then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan justified the actions of the gunmen. When the DYFI members attacked the Youth Congress members who had shown black flags at the chief minister's bus in Kannur, the gunman was also there with a stick. The gunman's job is to travel with the Chief Minister's bus and provide security. Instead, he arrived in an escort car and led the violence.
