KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has landed in a fresh controversy following allegations of workplace harassment and wrongful termination raised by a former employee. Athulya Prakashan, who served as the manager at the organisation’s headquarters in Kaloor, has filed formal complaints with the City Police Commissioner, the Labour Department, and the AMMA executive committee.

In her complaint, Athulya alleges that she was subjected to persistent mental harassment and misconduct by the organisation’s Treasurer, Unni Shivapal. She further claims that when she sought redressal from General Secretary Cuckoo Parameswaran, she was met with verbal threats instead of support. According to the complainant, her employment—which began in September 2025—was abruptly and illegally terminated on April 30 without any formal notice or justification.

Seeking police protection to resume her duties and justice for the alleged mistreatment, Athulya has urged the authorities to intervene. While the Kochi North Police have officially commenced a probe into the matter, the leadership of AMMA has maintained silence on the allegations so far. Given the high profile of the actors' guild, the development is expected to draw significant public and industry scrutiny.
