KOCHI: As per the Priyadarshini scheme announced by the state government, from tomorrow onwards, women passengers will have to purchase 'zero-value' tickets to avail the benefits of free travel in the ordinary bus. Although it is free, passengers must ask the conductor to buy a ticket when boarding the bus.

There will be a sticker on the buses that offer free rides. If caught without a ticket, the passenger will be fined Rs. 500. Special tickets marked ₹0.00 (zero rupees) are being issued to facilitate the movement of passengers and to enable KSRTC to avail a subsidy from the government.

Rules apply

  • Free travel is only for women and transgender people. Boys between the ages of 5 and 11 who are travelling with them should buy a half ticket. Full ticket if they are 12 years old.
  • Except for the free fare, all the rules for other passengers apply to women.
  • Passengers should ensure that the electronic ticket issued by the conductor has "Priyadarshini" written on it in Malayalam and English at the top.
