Still a district committee member; Padmakumar removed from CPM district committee WhatsApp group
PATHANAMTHITTA: A. Padmakumar, former Devaswom Board president and current CPM district committee member, has been removed from the party’s official district committee WhatsApp group. Party insiders suggest this move reflects a tactical decision to restrict his access to sensitive discussions involving the district secretary while the investigation into the Sabarimala gold theft case continues.
Despite his arrest and subsequent imprisonment, the party has not yet taken formal disciplinary action against Padmakumar, and he technically remains a member of the district committee.
Bail denied for Co-accused
In related proceedings, the Kollam Vigilance Court recently rejected the bail application of former Devaswom Board member N. Vijayakumar, who is also an accused in the case. While his defence had cited health complications, Judge Dr. C.S. Mohit denied the request, accepting the prosecution's contention that Vijayakumar’s health remains stable.
Vijayakumar has been in custody since his arrest by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on December 29. The court is also currently reviewing the bail application for RPN Govardhan, the owner of a Bellary-based jewellery firm, who is also implicated in the matter.
