MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians have had a disappointing IPL season this year. The team is currently placed ninth in the points table, and its chances of reaching the playoffs are almost over. Now, reports suggest that Rohit Sharma could lead the team again in the next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The possibility of Rohit returning as captain comes as current skipper Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav may miss the match.

After Hardik was made captain, there were reports of dissatisfaction within the team, and fans had also criticised his captaincy. Hardik had missed the previous match because of a back injury, and reports say he may take a rest for one more game. Suryakumar Yadav, who led the side in Hardik's absence in the last match, is also likely to miss the upcoming game due to personal reasons. This had opened the door for former skipper Rohit Sharma, who led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, to return as captain.

Mumbai players have already started arriving in Raipur, where the next match will be played. Rohit Sharma was reportedly part of the first group to arrive, while Hardik and Suryakumar have not yet reached the city. Due to limited flight availability, players are arriving in phases. If Hardik and Suryakumar do not join the squad before Sunday, Rohit is expected to lead the team at the toss.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians management has not yet revealed clear details about Hardik Pandya’s injury. Fans are now hoping that Rohit’s leadership can help the team make a comeback despite being in ninth place on the points table.
