11-year-old boy survives landslide by staying inside fridge for 20 hours

MANILA: A 11-year-old boy stayed inside a refrigerator for almost a day to escape a landslide. The incident took place in Baybay City in Philippines, on last Friday. According to reports, a boy named C J Jasme, has miraculously survived a landslide by hiding inside a refrigerator.

The tropical storm Megi had blown while Jasme and his family were staying inside their house. Following which a landslide began and the boy took refuge in a fridge. Authorities had found Jasme lying near a river shore amid a rescue operation. The boy had spent 20 hours inside the fridge. The rescue team said that the first words the child said to them were, “I am hungry”.

Jasme was conscious when the rescue team found him. He has suffered a broken leg during the disaster. He was soon rushed to a hospital and underwent a surgery. Currently, the boy is in stable condition, said the authorities.

However, Jasme’s family was unable to survive the landslide. The child’s father had died in another landslide, on Thursday. His elder brother has reportedly escaped. His mother and younger brother are yet to be found. Following the storm, 172 people were killed and around 200 wounded in Baybay alone. More than two million have been displaced. Rescue operations are still on progress, said the authorities.
