Exams posing a challenge

exams

The CBSE Class X annual examinations, which were scheduled to start on May 4, has been cancelled in the wake of the recent surge in COVID cases across the country. The Class XII examinations, which were also scheduled to start on the same day, has been postponed. The revised date of the Class XII examinations will be considered after assessing the situation in the first week of June. If the situation remains the same, the exam may be delayed again. In any case, the authorities guarantee that the students will be informed 15 days before the start of the examination.

Class X and XII exams, which are considered a stepping stone to higher education, are crucial for millions of children across the country. Board examinations are being held in many places in the states. The Central Board exams were also scheduled to start in March but were postponed. Meanwhile, the epidemic is once again spreading in a serious way. The Centre took a decision on the CBSE exams as it recognised that the lives of children are more valuable than the exams. With the Class X examinations getting cancelled, new measures will have to be taken to determine the eligibility criteria of the students. The indication is that the eligibility criteria for the higher class will be determined based on the grade and marks of the class examinations and model examinations already conducted. All of this is something that causes a lot of mental stress for children. For those who wanted to excel in the qualifying exam, the cancellation of the exam will lead to severe frustration. But in the current situation, there is no other way but to adapt. Let us not forget that the other upcoming great exams are also in the shadow of uncertainty. Considering the extraordinary and serious situation created by the epidemic, the cancellation of the Class 10 examination and the postponement of the Class 12 examination should be seen as an inevitable change. When the mind is matured according to the situation, whether it is a child or an adult, they become strong enough to face everything with balance.

We cannot say how COVID would affect the entrance exams to be held at the all-India level. The country is heading towards a situation where it is doubtful whether the children would be confined to their homes in the new academic year. Even in this scary environment, the teaching world, experts and the community need to think of ways to maximize morale in children. Children should make sure to make the most of the opportunity available to them to prepare for the postponed exams. It had already been decided to give class promotion to everyone till the ninth class. We need to think about how to improve our online education. Class ten and twelve annual examinations are being held in the state. Authorities have said they do not intend to postpone them. Similarly, a decision has to be taken on the ICSE and ISE examinations at the all-India level. Millions of children are eagerly awaiting a decision.
