'Only a certain group of people are punished': Maradu special court judge receives threat letter

KOZHIKODE: The Maradu special court judge AS Ambika, who delivered the verdict in the second Marad riots, received a threat via a letter. The letter sent from Kozhikode civil station premises was received today in Eranjipalam by post. The anonymous letter's reference is against punishing only a certain group of people. Nadakavu police will register a case in the incident.

A special court had sentenced two more accused to double life imprisonment in the second Maradu riots case. The Marad Special Court convicted 95th accused Hydros and 148th accused Nizamuddin. The second Maradu riot, that killed nine people, was on May 2, 2003. The special court has so far convicted 63 accused in the case. The trial court had acquitted 76 accused in the riots. Of these, 24 were convicted by the Kerala High Court. Judge Ambika received the threat shortly after the verdict was announced.
