Air India with 355 passengers returns to Delhi shortly after take-off due to technical glitch
NEW DELHI: An Air India flight from Delhi to Mumbai returned to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a technical issue with the engine. The Boeing 777 aircraft carrying 355 passengers landed safely. The Mumbai-bound AI887 flight returned as per standard operating procedure due to a technical issue, an Air India spokesperson said. The aircraft landed safely at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The fleet crew confirmed that the right engine had low oil pressure during flap retraction. Later, the engine oil pressure dropped to zero. The crew then took appropriate action and brought the aircraft down. It is also reported that the right engine shut down before landing. Air India has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by this unexpected situation. The aircraft is currently being inspected and alternative arrangements will be made for the passengers, an Air India spokesperson said.
