Accident at inauguration ceremony; flagged-off vehicle falls into river; female driver rescued
THRISSUR: The vehicle that was flagged off during the inauguration ceremony of the Navakanti Swap Shop fell into the river. The incident took place at 12.35 pm yesterday. The accident involved a four-wheeled electric vehicle that was purchased at a cost of lakhs for a project to take goods to the Swap Shop and provide them to the needy. As the vehicle was flagged off by the Municipality Chairman PN Surendran, Bindu, a member of Harithakarma Sena and driver, took the vehicle forward. The vehicle lost control and ran into the river. Standing Committee Chairman PR Aravindakshan was also in the vehicle.
Aravindakshan opened the door of the vehicle that had submerged in the river and got out with Bindu. The employees who jumped into the river brought both of them to the shore. The vehicle was lifted to the shore using a crane and the inaugural meeting continued. Aravindakshan and Bindu were taken to the Wadakkanchery District Hospital and given primary treatment.
