'Backed out of promised marriage citing caste'; Former MP's daughter comes out against Rahul Mamkootathil
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is reported that the daughter of a former Congress MP from Kerala is among those who have filed a complaint against Rahul Mamkootathil with the party high command.
As per the complaint, Rahul promised marriage but later backed out, citing caste reasons. Rahul allegedly said that his family would not accept her as she was from a backwards caste. The party leadership received nine complaints, including that of this young woman.
AICC General Secretary Deepadas Munshi, who is in charge of Kerala, received the complaints against the Palakkad MLA. After consulting with senior leaders, AICC asked Rahul to immediately resign from the Youth Congress President post. In the meantime, Rahul had informed the leadership that he would step down after the long march already planned in support of Rahul Gandhi in the Vote Chori issue.
However, things turned awry as more complaints started coming against Rahul. The final nail in the coffin was the response from opposition leader and Rahul's political godfather VD Satheesan. With this, Rahul was left with no option but to resign.
The Youth Congress president, however, has not resigned from his MLA post, and many fear this to affect Congress in the upcoming local body elections.
