Body of missing 20-year-old girl found partially burnt; rape suspected

BENGALURU: The body of a 20-year-old student, who had gone missing a few days ago, was found partially burnt. The deceased was a second-year BA student of the Government Women’s First Grade College. Her body was recovered in the Chitradurga district. The girl had gone missing on August 14. She had left the hostel but never returned.

The girl's parents learned about their daughter's death when they went to the police station to file a missing complaint. Police suspect that the girl was sexually assaulted before being killed. It is also suspected that the accused set the body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Police said further details can be confirmed only after receiving the post-mortem report.
