Malayali woman commits suicide after killing baby daughter in Sharjah

SHARJAH: A Malayali woman and her daughter were found dead in Sharjah. The dead have been identified as Vipanchika Maniyan (33), wife of Nidheesh of Keralapuram in Kollam, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Vaibhavi. After hanging her baby in a rope, Vipanchika hanged herself from the other end of the rope.

The two were found dead in their flat in Al Nahda, Sharjah on Tuesday afternoon. Vipanchika was working in the HR department of a private company in Dubai. Her husband Nitheesh is an engineer in a private company in Dubai. The two were living separately.

Her relatives alleged that Nidheesh had mentally harassed the woman in the name of dowry and budged pressure on her for divorce. Vipanchika had told her maid and mother that she would end her life if he divorces her.

Vipanchika had received a legal notice the other day. It was after this that she took the drastic step. Her relatives said that they will ask the authorities to investigate the incident in detail. The body is presently in the morgue of Sharjah Al Qasimi Hospital. The relatives have decided to take it home. However, Nidheesh wants to cremate his daughter in Sharjah. Further steps will be taken only after a settlement is reached in this matter.
