'Made mean remarks about my pregnancy, insult still hurts'; actress Divya Sreedhar opens up
The marriage of television star Kris Venugopal and actress Divya Sreedhar was all the news in Kerala. Even after the wedding, paparazzi follow them everywhere, and the sounds of camera shutters go rampant whenever the duo makes a public appearance. In a recent interview, Divya opened up about the ordeal she went through in her first marriage.
Divya Sreedhar:
“My flashback is simply darkness, but nothing else. It was only late into my marriage that I got to know that my former husband had already been married once. He used to get back into the house, soaked in blood after being roughed up by locals for creating a ruckus in an inebriated state. I kept hopes about everything turning out well, but alas…
Since the marriage took place without the consent of my family, the consequences of my later life became my sole responsibility. I worked day and night and started getting noticed after I became the heroine in the album ‘Khalbanu Fathima’. After this work, I started getting calls from movies.
I got a chance in movies like Bus Conductor and Pachakhuthira. Other times, I used to work as a makeup artist. However, my former husband was not ready to leave me in peace and would harm me as much as he could. When I got pregnant with my daughter, he expressed doubt over the parentage. He wanted to see the child’s face to confirm that it looked like him. That insult still pierces my heart.
From the age of 18 to 32, I didn't know what happiness was. Despite all this, it was my children who gave me purpose to live ahead.”
