Mahouts suspended for brutal beating of elephants in Guruvayur

THRISSUR: Two mahouts have been suspended from their duties after footage surfaced showing them brutally beating elephants Krishna and Keshavan Kutty during their bathing at Shivaliparam at Guruvayoor. The elephants, including Krishna, a gift to the temple from the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha were subjected to harassment, as seen in the viral video believed to have been recorded over a span of two months.

Sharath and Vasu, the mahouts in question, are currently under investigation following the release of the disturbing footage. The Devaswom Chairman has ordered the Deputy Administrator of Punnathur Kotta to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report. Upon reviewing the evidence, the mahouts were issued show-cause notices and subsequently dismissed from their positions.
