Fuel prices rise in country; Petrol, diesel hiked by Rs 3 per liter

NEW DELHI: Fuel prices in the country have been increased following the hike in crude oil prices in the international market. Petrol and diesel have been hiked by Rs 3 per liter each. The new rates will come into effect from today.

In Thiruvananthapuram, petrol prices increased to Rs 110.76 and diesel prices to Rs 99.26. In Delhi, petrol prices increased from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per liter and diesel prices from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67. In Kolkata, petrol prices rose to Rs 108.74 and diesel prices to Rs 95.13 per liter. In Mumbai, petrol prices touched Rs 106.68. Diesel prices rose to Rs 93.14. A sharp increase was also recorded in Chennai. Petrol price increased to Rs 103.67 and diesel price increased to Rs 95.25.

Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra said yesterday that a price hike in petrol and diesel is inevitable as the losses of public sector oil companies are increasing. He also made it clear that it was impossible to move forward. India imports 90 percent of its crude oil requirements.
