Electricity consumption hits record high in Kerala; Highest consumption recorded yesterday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Electricity consumption in Kerala has reached a record high amid the intense summer heat. The demand touched 5933 megawatts marking the highest usage recorded this month yesterday evening alone. This is the first time that electricity consumption has increased this much. A total of 112.16 million units of electricity were consumed in a single day, the highest ever recorded in the state.

Meantime, the state continues to experience extreme heat. There is a temperature warning in all districts except Idukki and Wayanad. In Palakkad, the temperature reached 39.2°C yesterday and is likely to go up to 40°C in the coming days. Heat warnings have been issued for all districts except Idukki and Wayanad.

Authorities have also issued health advisories urging people to take precautions.

Direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided between 10 am to 3 pm when ultraviolet (UV) radiation is at its peak

Use umbrellas, hats, and sunglasses when going outdoors

Wear full-body cotton clothing

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated

Take breaks in shaded areas during travel

Extra caution is advised for fishermen, outdoor workers, bikers, tourists, and those with health conditions

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause sunstroke, skin diseases, eye problems, and other health issues. The public is advised to take necessary safety measures.
