
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for three districts in the state as rains continue to intensify today. A red alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted. The IMD defines very heavy rain as more than 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours.
A holiday has been issued for educational institutions in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod today. The holiday will be applicable to all educational institutions including colleges, schools, Anganwadis, tuition centers, ICSE and CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas and religious educational institutions including Madrasas. The holiday will not apply to residential schools.
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Malappuram and Wayanad. The IMD has predicted that there is a possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated places. The IMD defines very heavy rainfall as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. The IMD also informs that there is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph in isolated places in Kerala till tomorrow.
