
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that isolated very heavy rainfall is likely in Kerala and Mahe today. Monsoon has made a fresh entry into the remaining parts of the northeastern states, the entire state of Sikkim and some parts of the sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal today.
The IMD has informed that a cyclonic circulation is present over the interior areas of North Karnataka and its adjoining areas and accordingly, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Kerala today. Red, orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts.
Red Alert
09/06/2026: Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
The IMD has issued a red alert in the above districts. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD defines very heavy rain as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
Orange Alert

The IMD has issued an orange alert in the following districts. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The IMD has declared very heavy rainfall as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.
Yellow Alert
09/06/2026: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad

The IMD has declared a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rainfall is predicted. Heavy rainfall is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rain with thunderstorms is expected.
Extremely heavy rains will create dangers. Heavy rains are expected in a short period of time. This may cause flash floods and floods. There is a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. The situation of continued rains may cause landslides and mudslides. The public and government agencies should be extremely vigilant.
