THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said that the number of prisoners in Kerala's jails is increasing and that one more jail is needed in the state. He clarified that the government will initiate steps for comprehensive prison reforms. He was responding to the media after holding discussions on the issue with three prison DIGs and officials.

‘Prisons in Kerala function as correctional centers that guide prisoners to the right path. The number of prisoners is increasing. Therefore, there is a need for one more central prison in the state. Prisons are moving forward on the path of modernization,' said Chennithala. He added that discussions were held to implement comprehensive reforms related to prisons.
