KOLKATA: The BJP registered a record victory in West Bengal’s Falta constituency, where repolling was held following allegations of election irregularities. BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won the seat with a margin of more than one lakh votes.

Debangshu Panda secured 1,49,666 votes. CPM candidate Shambhu Nath received 40,645 votes, while Congress candidate Abdur Razak Molla got 10,884 votes. In a surprising result, Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan managed to secure only 7,783 votes.

Repolling in the Falta constituency, which has 285 polling booths, was conducted on May 21. The original polling had taken place on April 29 during the second phase of voting in West Bengal. However, the Election Commission later cancelled the polling after allegations emerged that the symbol on the voting machine had been covered.

Meanwhile, former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of manipulating the election. She alleged that the BJP's victory was achieved through tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
